When Illness Affects Your Appetite

Addressing the dietary needs for people living with illness that affects
appetite is not an easy task. Caregiver often feel frustrated, as no matter
what they cook the person doesn't want to eat it. Likewise a person living
with advanced disease might feel distressed at mealtimes as they have no
enjoyment from food. As such, supporting a person with a poor appetite in
palliative care requires a compassionate and holistic approach. This session
will explore the common causes for loss of appetite and offer some
practical tips on how to manage these symptoms. Whilst exploring the
emotional connection of food and discuss why it is more than just nutrition.
